Five weeks after he cooked up a storm at a Harpenden school, Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey wrapped up the party’s campaigning in the constituency with a second visit to the town.
Hundreds of party campaigners greeted the arrival of his battle bus – which had already called in at seats in Wiltshire and Hampshire earlier in the day – as golden confetti rained down from the skies.
The Lib Dems are making a last minute push to win Harpenden and Berkhamsted, buoyed by the latest poll which showed them neck and neck with the Conservatives.
The MRP poll from Survation shows a gap of just 0.89% between the Liberal Democrats (31%) and Conservatives (30.1%), with Labour trailing behind in third place (24.1%).
After a brief speech to the nation’s media, Ed joined St Albans candidate and Lib Dem deputy leader Daisy Cooper in riding off into the sunset in a pink Cadillac. Whether they will get the movie-style ending they are hoping for will be decided after the polls close tomorrow night.
