World-renowned rock ‘n’ roll photographer Danny Clifford is the special guest launching the new season for the Harpenden Photographic Society.
Danny has spent his illustrious career as a ‘fly on the wall’ to the most iconic musical artists of the last 40 years, from his big break, aged just 20, as Bob Dylan’s official photographer in the late 1970s, through his close working relationships with Queen, The Who, The Rolling Stones and Amy Winehouse (to name but a handful).
The stories he has amassed over the years are just as vivid, colourful and dramatic as his photographs.
Danny will offer a glimpse into his archive, and tell stories of the countless shots he has taken on and offstage, behind the scenes and during historic performances.
Steve Collins, chair of HPS said: “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be welcoming legendary rock photographer Danny Clifford to the club as our opening presentation for the new season.
“Danny’s photographs of rock icons from across the last four and a half decades, along with the wonderful stories behind them, will ensure a highly entertaining evening and will definitely appeal to any fan of music or photography. Not to be missed!
“As always, HPS has an incredible programme of activity to appeal to anyone interested in photography, and this season is looking very strong, so please consider joining us and supporting your local photography club. New members are always welcome!”
Now in its 88th year, HPS caters for all abilities – from beginner to more advanced photographer. It’s a lively and friendly club of more than 70 members. Meetings are from September to June on the first and third Tuesday each month, usually either at the Harpenden Trust Hall in Southdown or on Zoom.
The varied programme gives members the chance to enjoy and improve their own photography, and to mix and chat with other likeminded enthusiasts. Regular guest speakers allow members the opportunity to learn and be inspired by the many different styles and genres.
Rock Stars Don’t Smile – An Evening with Danny Clifford takes place on Tuesday September 3 at Harpenden Trust Hall from 8-10pm. It is free for members of the Harpenden Photographic Society, and £12.50 for non-members (plus Eventbrite fees) via bit.ly/3ypxu5m.
(The ticket price will be deducted from the price of HPS membership if purchasers subsequently decide to join the society.)
You can find out more about the society on their website www.harpendenphotographicsociety.co.uk or email for details on how to join at harpendenphotographicsociety@gmail.com
