It might only be October, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to pick up your calendar for the coming year.
And if you’re looking for something with a local focus, there are two very different offerings on the marketplace.
The first is from award-winning Harpenden photographer Steve Collins, and features his images of ‘Britain’s Most Desirable Town’, according to estate agent Savills.
The limited edition calendar includes iconic Harpenden landmarks such as Rothamsted Park, the Baa Lamb Trees,
Harpenden Common, Batford Springs and Nature Reserve, as well as seasonal events such as cricket on the Common, the annual Teddy Bears Picnic, Frosty the Snowman and the town’s Christmas lights.
Steve, who is also chair of Harpenden Photographic Society, said: “After last year’s calendar very quickly sold out, I was encouraged to bring out a new Harpenden calendar for 2025. Once again, it’s a gorgeous large A3 format wall calendar and is printed on 200gsm silk paper.
“Each individual image in the Harpenden Calendar is approximately A4 in size and look so good I hope owners will frame a few of the images once the year is up, and continue to enjoy them around their home.
“The calendar would be a fantastic Christmas gift to anyone who lives in Harpenden, or perhaps for friends or relatives who once lived here and but have now moved away, to remind them of our beautiful town.”
The limited edition calendar is available to purchase now whilst stocks last from Threads of Harpenden in the High Street or directly via Steve’s website.

Also out now is artist Hannah Sessions’ calendar of Pub Signs of St Albans, which is available from her market stall, St Albans Museum + Gallery, and the Fleetville Larder.
It features black and white sketches of 24 different signs against colourful backgrounds, including the likes of The Garibaldi, The Robin Hood, The Lower Red Lion and Ye Olde Fighting Cocks.
Hannah said: “When it came to deciding this year’s calendar theme, I wanted to do something a bit different. I have done several years of the landmark and pub buildings which I know to be popular. So building on this a good friend suggested I did the pub signs as she had just walked past a few in town. I have since discovered that these are maybe not so numerous as they were, with pubs choosing no hanging pictorial signs or just using the name. This is a another great reason to design this calendar this year.
“I decided to leave the signs a graphic black and white with colourful and patterned backgrounds to bring colour into your rooms. I have left the choice up to the customer to leave the signs graphic or colour them in by yourself or children might like a activity each month. What is also a nice idea is to broaden your pub scene by visiting the two pubs featured each month?”
