TEDx St Albans is returning to St Albans this autumn.
The event will be held at the Abbey Theatre on October 16 from 10am-5.30pm.
The TEDx programme helps communities, organisations and individuals produce TED (technology, entertainment, design) style events – whose mission is ‘ideas worth spreading,’ – at a local level.
The theme for the 2024 event is ‘Curiosity’ – the desire to understand, explore and research new ideas and opinions which could be different from your own, and having the courage to go outside of your comfort zone.
This year’s speakers include a songwriter, a war photographer, and a funeral celebrant.
The Tempest Two is made up of James Whittle and Tom Caulfield, who in 2015 decided to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean with zero previous experience.
They said: “We are thrilled to be speaking at TEDx St Albans. It represents an opportunity for us to share innovative ideas and inspire positive change within the community. TEDx events are renowned globally for being a beacon of knowledge and creativity, bringing together diverse voices to explore new perspectives and challenge the status quo. We are excited to contribute to the event with our personal mindset learnings that we’ve gained from crossing oceans to climbing mountains.
Rachel Oxborough, an art psychotherapist, is passionate about implementing creativity and art therapy in the transformation of organisational culture, especially in the area of mental health.
She said: “The opportunity to speak at TEDx St Albans is a dream come true! As a creative who is passionate about transformation of culture using art therapy, this is such an exciting position to be in.
“I believe that TEDx St Albans is a phenomenal platform for the community to bring about innovation and ideas along with providing individuals from all walks of life a powerful voice. This can only be a good thing for St Albans.”
TEDx St Albans co-organiser, Cheryl Luzet, CEO of Wagada Digital said: “We are excited to bring TEDx to St Albans, a vibrant city which is the home to many great minds and inspirational leaders, in what is a very accessible format of delivering talks and sparking debate that everyone can get involved in. We hope to embed this event into the St Albans calendar of yearly events to nurture and inspire local talent.”
