The haunting tale of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street comes to life at The Sandpit Theatre just in time for Halloween.
With music and lyrics by the legendary late Stephen Sondheim, Sweeney Todd is regarded as one of the greatest works in musical theatre history — a gripping blend of dark comedy, thrilling drama, and unforgettable music. The story follows the vengeful barber Sweeney Todd, recently returned to Victorian London, as he teams up with the enterprising pie-maker Mrs Lovett to serve justice… with a deadly twist.
This semi-immersive, steampunk-infused production promises a Sweeney Todd unlike any other — a chilling blend of Victorian darkness and fresh, inventive flair, perfectly matched to St Albans’ own rich ties to the Victorian era and the world of Sweeney Todd.
The show is directed by Peter Heppelthwaite, a seasoned West End performer and director known for his roles in Les Misérables (as Thenardier), Miss Saigon, and Sunset Boulevard.
Peter is also beloved for playing Jed in the classic BBC series The Green Green Grass, with further credits in EastEnders, The Office UK, and more.

Stepping into the title role, Kyle Goold brings an award-winning pedigree to Sweeney Todd, having earned more than 10 acting honours — including three National Drama Festival wins for his unforgettable turns in Private Peaceful, Bouncers, and beyond. Opposite him, Jessica Heppelthwaite slices through the comedy as Mrs Lovett, a celebrated performer with over a decade of accolades for her quick wit and razor-sharp timing in plays such as Teechers and Shakers.
This production is by Limitless Academy of Performing Arts, one of the UK’s leading part-time drama schools. Renowned for ambitious, high-quality performances, Limitless deliver full-scale set and prop design, handcrafted costumes, and the expertise of professional lighting and sound crews — creating theatre of a truly remarkable standard.
Their past productions in St Albans include the sold-out Bugsy Malone, which earned glowing five-star reviews for its energy and ingenuity, as well as the multi-award-winning touring production of Bouncers, hailed by critics as an “off-West End experience.”
With over a decade of shows in the city, Limitless have established themselves as a household name in semi-professional theatre — bringing West End quality to your doorstep.
Audiences can expect a thrilling and mysterious journey into the streets of Victorian London, where revenge, wit, and twisted humour intertwine. With immersive staging, atmospheric design, and award-winning performances, this is not your average Sweeney Todd.
