A royal guest of honour will join the celebrations as 30 years of inspiring musicians are marked at a special cathedral event.
The Duchess of Gloucester, a long-standing supporter of music and the arts, will attend a St Albans Cathedral Music Trust celebratory choristers’ recital in the Lady Chapel, alongside trustees, supporters, choristers and members of the wider community.
The event on Wednesday June 24 will celebrate three decades of outstanding choral music, nurturing young musical talent and widening access to musical opportunities across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
Chairman of the Trust, Dr Lionel Wallace DL, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester will join us as we celebrate 30 years of the Music Trust.
“Music has always been at the heart of the Cathedral’s life, bringing people together across generations and backgrounds. This anniversary is a chance to celebrate not only the remarkable achievements of the past 30 years, but also the exciting future ahead.
“The visit by Her Royal Highness is a tremendous honour for everyone involved with the Trust, particularly the Cathedral choristers whose talent, dedication and enthusiasm continue to inspire us all.”
During the visit, the Duchess will also be welcomed by The Very Reverend Jo Kelly-Moore, Dean of St Albans; William Fox, Director of Music; and Dewi Rees, Assistant Director of Music.
Guests will enjoy performances showcasing the talent and dedication of the Cathedral choristers, including a short speech from chorister Adam Davis, before the Duchess meets trustees and other supporters at a reception.
Founded to support and strengthen the Cathedral’s musical tradition, the St Albans Cathedral Music Trust continues to play a vital role in supporting musical excellence and creating opportunities for the whole community to experience the transformative power of music.
The anniversary celebrations also shine a spotlight on the Trust’s Excellence for Everyone campaign, which aims to raise more than £2.75 million by 2030 to secure the future of the cathedral’s music and expand access to musical opportunities throughout the region.
Lionel said: “Music has an extraordinary ability to inspire, comfort and connect people. We are proud to celebrate 30 years of the Music Trust and excited to continue building a future where that choral tradition can be shared and enjoyed by even more people.”
