Local author signing new book on Alban

Ted Hill

Locally born author Ted Hill will be at the St Peter’s Street branch of Waterstones on Saturday March 14 signing copies of his book Alban of Verulamium – Britannia’s First Saint and chatting with readers.

The book tells the story of Saint Alban, widely recognised as Britain’s first saint, and explores the Roman roots of the city once known as Verulamium. Ted said it makes a fascinating read for anyone interested in local history, faith, or the rich heritage of St Albans.

Set in Verulamium in 304 AD, the novel invites readers to step back into a time when faith was dangerous, and courage could change the course of history. Alban, a veteran soldier living a quiet life, finds his world transformed when he shelters a fugitive Christian priest. The priest’s faith awakens a conviction in Alban that will lead him to an extraordinary act of defiance — one that will echo through the centuries.

Ted added: “As a St Albans born-and-raised boy, I’m really pleased to be back in the city signing my book. Alban’s story is such an important part of our local and national heritage, and it’s wonderful to share it with readers here at home.”

There’s no need to book – just drop in between 11am and 2pm, say hello, and pick up a signed copy. Ted will be happy to answer questions and talk about the inspiration behind the book.
