Thousands of people enjoyed the long-awaited return of the Alban Street Festival on Sunday.
Cancelled by the pandemic and postponed due to the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the event has not taken place since 2019.
It featured a programme of free entertainment including live music, fun activities and street performers, plus a host of market stalls selling food, drink and other produce.
The six-hour event was organised by SADC and supported by St Albans BID, and came in the wake of the Alban Pilgrimage on Saturday.
BID manager Vivien Cannon said: “This day gives a great ‘hello and welcome to all’ in celebration of the history behind our town’s founding and namesake, Alban.
“In keeping with the Alban Street Festival ethos, today’s city centre businesses continue to offer hospitality to visitors and townsfolk with a plethora of products and experiences to enjoy in St Albans every day of the year.”
This year’s festival was part-funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund which has pledged to contribute £79,220 to St Albans community events during 2022/23.
