One of St Albans’ most historic pubs is preparing for its biggest-ever live music festival after last year’s event attracted record crowds.
Ye Olde Fighting Cocks will welcome music lovers to its annual free festival next Saturday August 1, with eight live acts performing throughout the day alongside food, drinks and family-friendly entertainment.
The event, now in its fourth year, showcases musicians from across Hertfordshire and beyond, giving local performers the chance to play at one of the city’s best-known venues.
This year’s line-up features Hertfordshire blues favourites Kaspar ‘Berry’ Rapkin and The Swamp Dogs, 1950s and ’60s rhythm and blues, soul and rock ‘n’ roll band Two Gun Mathilda, Savannah Gardner and The Recovering Good Girls who will be bringing their energetic country, Americana and blues sound to the festival, while the Paul Ryan Band will be entertaining the crowds with their uplifting mix of indie, folk, Americana and rock.
Other performers include blues-rock outfit Seb Wesson Band, acoustic duo Adam and Elsie Franklin, singer-songwriter Marta Valadon and award-winning British blues-rock artist Brooke Law, who offers a mix of country rock and catchy pop-infused lyrics.
The evening will finish with a DJ set from Chris Clifford who will be playing popular house dance-floor fillers and club classics.
Live music begins at 1pm, with free entry throughout the day.
As well as the music, visitors can enjoy food served throughout the festival, the pub’s range of beers and ales, and entertainment including fire-breathing performances.

The pub is encouraging people to arrive early to enjoy the full line-up, with music continuing into the evening. The festival is free to attend, with no ticket required.
