Sustainable clothing and gift brand Tommy & Lottie and creative stitching fashion upcycling business The Fabric Folk are hosting a free Bee Day event at George Street Canteen on Saturday May 16 from 10am-4pm.
The event promises to be a joyful day of bees, creativity and community in the Canteen’s own wildlife garden.
Meet beekeeper Steve from Redbourn’s Queen Of Herts, see bees and hives close up and learn simple ways we can help them thrive in our own gardens and what we can all do to protect biodiversity. Just drop in on the day.
Marina Balashova from the Fabric Folk will be hosting a Beembroydery Workshop offering youngsters the chance to stitch their own bee patch and use it to repair, customise or embellish their clothing (tickets required). All children must be accompanied by an adult and the recommended age is 10-plus.
Tommy & Lottie will have a bee themed stall featuring their best selling bee collection including embroidered organic cotton T-shirts, plantable cards, bags and prints.
Katie Carr, founder of Tommy & Lottie, said: “This will be a day celebrating bees, biodiversity, slow fashion and small actions that make a difference. Well, bees are the most important species on the planet after all.
“Bees are essential to biodiversity and our food systems. This event is about celebrating them and learning how small everyday actions, from planting flowers to repairing clothes, can make a difference.
“Shop bee design sustainable goods from Tommy & Lottie plus wildflower seeds to take away on the day. These are perfect to plant for our pollinators, and have been donated by the community gardening group Wilderhood Watch.
“And of course you can grab decent coffee and food from George Street Canteen.”
