Celebrating 60 years of Park Street Residents’ Association

A celebratory May fair was held in Park Street to recognise 60 years of the village residents’ association.

Taking place at the recreation ground on Bank Holiday Monday, it featured a variety of stalls and entertainment throughout the afternoon.

PSRA chairman Joy Mendelsohn said: “It was a lovely community event to celebrate PSRA’s 60th anniversary. How Wood school started the celebrations with maypole dancing, then there was a tug of war between The Overdraft and The Social Club which the former won!

“We had 26 stalls including local clubs, Park St Baptist Church with a huge marquee of free children’s activities, St Stephen’s Gardening Club, Marquetry, Park St Pickers, Friends of Hanstead Wood, Chabad Synagogue with free games and seeds to plant in a pot to take home, kindly donated by Burstons Garden Centre, Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership who sponsored free miniature train rides, PBFC supplying desserts and nine other food and drink stands and St Stephen Parish Council.

“PSRA’s raffle was popular as a local businessman donated two 15 minute rides in his helicopter which flew off from Park Street School as first and second prizes. Local businesses were all very generous in donating raffle and tombola prizes. The funfair was a great attraction with the children as was Keith’s interactive dragon. There was also a dog show and a visit from two dog search and rescue vehicles.”
