A major national cycling event involving riders competing in races and dirt jumps is coming to St Albans next week.
St Albans Cycle Hub in Cottonmill will be hosting the inaugural rounds of the British Pump Track Series on April 27 and 28.
Following the resounding success of last year’s event which attracted 200 riders, the series returns to the St Albans track with two days of racing and a dirt jump jam.
Pump track racing involves a purpose built track designed to be completed by cyclists “pumping” – generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedaling or pushing.
The format allows each rider three attempts in either direction (three forwards, three reverse, six laps total). The fastest attempt each way added together gives a total time, and fastest total time wins.

In addition to the races, the event will feature sponsor and trade stalls, providing opportunities to mengage with leading brands in the cycling industry. A variety of food stalls will also be available.
