Sequins, Glitter and Love are ready to grace the Alban Arena in Brilliant Theatre’s rendition of hit musical Everybody’s Talking about Jamie!
The youth theatre company have run shows at the Alban Arena for the past seven years and this year’s production is a youth adaptation of the West End hit, writes Anna Shreeves.
Brilliant Theatre gives local children the opportunity to express their love of theatre, as company director, David Jenkins, explained: “The work we do is all about spreading the magic feeling that the theatre gives.”
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is a coming of age story about a young boy called Jamie, a 16 year old from Sheffield who dreams of being a drag queen.
The story follows him on his journey to acceptance while overcoming adversity from people around him.
This is a feel-good, sequin filled show about individuality, love and community, and with its catchy songs, dazzling staging and heart-warming story it is sure to be a fun night out for the whole family!
The cast is made up of 78 children ranging in age from 10-19, who have been tirelessly rehearsing over recent weeks and are now full steam ahead until curtain call on Saturday,
With inclusion at the heart of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, David wanted to ensure that his cast reflects this message too.
He said: “We have done a huge outreach for inclusivity and diversity for this show, offering many bursaries to low income families.”
The company has also made a push for children of all ethnicities to be a part of the production.
“If we were going to do this show it needed to be told properly and so it has been so important to make sure everyone was represented correctly”, said David.
There are four performances in total, running at 1:30pm and 7:30pm on August 10 and 11 at the Alban Arena.
