A groundbreaking bike hire scheme tailored specifically for the pump track and dirt jumps has been launched by St Albans Cycle Hub.
The initiative, which was made possible through funding and donations, aims to revolutionise access to specialised cycling equipment for bikers in the community from the hub’s base at Cottonmill Community and Cycling Centre.
St Albans Cycle Hub has acquired a fleet of top-quality DMR jump bikes thanks to a significant contribution from Hertfordshire Walking Cycling and Wheeling, in collaboration with DMR Bikes,.
These specialised bikes are meticulously engineered to meet the rigorous demands of jumps and tricks on the track, ensuring riders experience unparalleled performance and safety.
Additionally, the Cycle Hub received a donation of funding for BMX bikes from an anonymous donor, further enriching the range of options available for hire.
Cycle Hub manager Mat Daniels said: “Hertfordshire Walking Cycling and Wheeling give us great support to bring cycling to life in St Albans. Their assistance has been instrumental in realising this initiative and making cycling accessible to a broader audience.

Mat added: “What sets this bike hire scheme apart is the inclusion of a gold standard lock with every bike hire, providing added convenience and security for riders.
“This innovative feature allows cyclists to ride to the Cycle Hub on their own bike, hire a specialist bike, and securely leave their own bike without the need to carry a heavy D-lock on their ride here.
“We are dedicated to making sport more accessible by providing purpose-designed bikes to those who may not be able to afford them, while also promoting active travel to our venue.”
Bikes are available for hire between 10am and 4pm and must be booked in advance.
Hire charges are £20 for two hours, £30 for four hours, and £40 for six hours.
Additionally, full-face helmets are available for £2.50 per session, and a gold standard lock is also £2.50 per session.
For individuals receiving universal credit or free school meals, bike hire is offered free of charge.
Booking is available online at www.stalbanscyclehub.co.uk, and applicants will need to provide proof of identity, proof of universal credit/free school meals, and parental consent for those under 18.
