A St Albans Brownie unit celebrated its 100th birthday with a talent show.
The girls from 7th St Albans Brownies showcased their skills in gymnastics, guitar, drawing, magic tricks, contortionism, karate, acrobatics, Irish dancing and poetry recital.
The event, attended by county commissioner Sandra Sayce, ended with two girls showing off the traditional old-style Brownie uniform.
Brownies started in the UK in 1914, so the group was one of the earliest founded. The unit was formed on September 1 1923, and registered on November 13 1925.
A fundraiser for the National Animal Welfare Trust and WWF charity was held afterwards. They raised £119 by selling homemade goods such as cakes, bracelets and bookmarks, and also created a special badge to mark the occasion.
Unit leader Sarah Ashworth was presented with an award for all her hard work over the last two years.
She said: “It’s amazing to think that Brownies have been coming together in this group to try new things, learn new skills and have fun for the last 100 years!
“We have a brilliant team of volunteers on the leadership team who are really dedicated to making sure the girls have adventures with Brownies and build their confidence. We have such a talented group of Brownies and seeing them perform tonight was a great way to celebrate what Brownies is all about.”
