Hertfordshire Life magazine is axed by publisher

St Albans often featured in Herts Life.

Glossy monthly magazine Hertfordshire Life – which often featured St Albans district in its pages – has been closed down by publisher Newsquest less than two years since it bought the title.

The decision has been blamed on the costs involved in producing and distributing the magazine, which was published by defunct regional newspaper company Archant until the Newsquest takeover in February 2022. The latest and final edition is dated January 2024.

Current editor Katy Pearson paid tribute to her team in a farewell editorial: “Our journalists have worked incredibly hard, but the costs associated with producing and distributing this magazine have continued to rise, putting, in the end, a simply unsustainable pressure on the business…. and it is with real regret that we close this title that has been such a part of the community for so many years.”

Previous editor Richard Young, who was very much the heart and soul of Hertfordshire Life, passed away suddenly in October 2022, aged just 49.
