A minor water leak escalated into a full scale incident in the heart of St Albans city centre.
There has been a steady trickle of water outside Thompson’s restaurant in Hatfield Road for a few weeks, but this evening it transformed into a deluge.
The road collapsed and water was seen gushing out of a huge pool in the centre of the carriageway. The leak has now been repaired but the road remains closed.
A spokesperson for Affinity Water said: “This leak has now been fixed and I’m hoping to get some more information about how long the road will be closed for. We will reinstate the road as soon as we can.”
