St Albans South Signal Box, adjacent to Platform 4 of City Station, will be open this coming Sunday from 2-5pm.
The 131-year-old, restored Midland Signal Box is one of only a few still in its original position on an operational line.
In addition to Midland Mainline trains roaring past outside and Govia Thameslink stopping trains, the site boasts a garden full of artefacts, some hands-on experiences; a model railway with Thomas and Friends, a museum packed with more railway memorabilia, and the operating floor upstairs with demonstrations on how the signalman used to move trains through St. Albans.
Entry is free, donations appreciated, and light refreshments are available. The team are usually in the process of restoring and displaying new items to their collection, the latest being a rare slotted signal. So, come and pull levers, ring bells, and even have a go upstairs! More information on the website at www.sigbox.co.uk
