A father and son acoustic guitar combo are performing a free gig to encourage more customers to visit their local.
Mark Lomax and dad Paul – who perform as Lomax and Lomax – are playing at The Rat’s Castle in Fleetville on Saturday from 8pm.
Mark explained why they agreed to perform: “I’ve been coming here for 15 years, but recently I’ve noticed it’s been a bit quiet, even on Saturdays.
“I got chatting about it on our neighbours WhatsApp group and realised that if we don’t use it we’ll lose it.
“I think it had a bad reputation in the past, but I’ve never seen any trouble, it’s a friendly and sociable community pub.
Paul is a classically trained guitarist who learned his craft at the Guildhall in London, while Mark’s former band The Brink played Camden during the height of Britpop.
Saturday’s gig will mainly feature music from the ‘60s and ‘90s, including songs by The Beatles, the Stones, The Who, Oasis, Nirvana, Stereophonics, David Bowie and The Jam.
Mark, who works for the Royal Mail during his day job, added: “We used to play as many songs as we could, but we’re now focusing on quality over quantity.
“I just want to support my local pub and keep it alive, while trying out a few new songs without any pressure.
“I’ve been putting the word out and if everybody who says they’re coming turns up the place will be rammed!”
