Pupils, parents, and staff at St Hilda’s School in Harpenden have donated more than £30,000 to three charities.
Friend’s of St Hilda’s (FoSH), the parent-teacher association at the independent prep school raised £30,873.69 over three years, with £10,291.23 donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, Make-A-Wish UK and Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital.
Representatives from the charities joined pupils, parents, staff and members of FoSH at St Hilda’s to receive ceremonial ‘big cheques’ as part of the school’s regular ‘Friday Treats’ event.
Pupils, who had responsibility for choosing which charities to support, were delighted to see the result of the fundraising activities that they and their families have supported over the past three years.
The fundraising has been driven by the school’s FoSH team and supported by families and the wider St Hilda’s community through a range of events and activities across each academic year.
Headteacher Dan Sayers said: “Kindness is one of the values at the heart of St Hilda’s and this is a wonderful example of our community putting that value into action. We are extremely grateful to FoSH and to every parent, pupil, member of staff and friend of the school who has supported fundraising over the last three years.
“It was a privilege to welcome representatives from these three wonderful charities to St Hilda’s and to celebrate this achievement together.”
Business manager Daniel James, added: “£30,873.69 is an extraordinary amount for our school community to have raised and we are incredibly proud of everyone who has contributed.
“We are a relatively small school, so to have raised more than £30,000 is something our whole community can be immensely proud of.”
