Young people across the local area are being invited to put down their phones, step away from their screens and discover something new when Pioneer goes ‘Unplugged’ on Sunday October 18.
The youth-focused event will see Pioneer open up its entire venue for a special day designed specifically for 12–16-year-olds, giving them the chance to try their hand at a wide range of activities, meet local people and organisations, and perhaps discover a new passion along the way.
From music, sport, creativity and everything in between, the event will feature a packed programme of hands-on activities led by passionate local providers.
The idea behind Unplugged is simple: encourage young people to take a break from the digital world and experience what can happen when they get involved, get creative and try something for themselves.
Rather than simply watching, scrolling or gaming, visitors will be encouraged to have a go – whether that means picking up an instrument, getting creative, trying a new sport, learning a new skill or simply discovering something they didn’t know they were interested in.
Pioneer’s skatepark will also be getting involved, with free taster sessions running throughout the afternoon, giving newcomers the opportunity to get onto the ramps and experience the skatepark in a supportive environment.
And, of course, there will be plenty of food available throughout the day, with local favourites La Scatola Pizza and Glaze Bakery on site to keep everyone fuelled up.
Pioneer hopes the event will showcase just how many opportunities there are for young people to get involved in activities away from their screens – and how much can be achieved when they are given the opportunity, space and encouragement to try something different.
The organisers are encouraging young people to come along with an open mind, try something they’ve never done before and see where it takes them. Tickets cost just £5 and are on sale now. The message from Pioneer is clear: leave the screens behind and discover what you’re capable of.
