A free public screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing will take place at the Redbourn Village Hall on Tuesday October 6 at 7.30pm followed by a community discussion.
It features Chris Packham alongside key UK experts and academics discussing climate and nature issues in Westminster, with subjects including climate science, food security, public health, national security, flooding, heatwaves, nature, infrastructure stress and economic stability.
As well as presenting a clear picture of the challenges ahead, it aims to create a space for local communities to consider what these issues may mean in their local area and how they can support their MP to call for stronger action.
The film, which was produced to ensure that members of the general public get to hear the important messages from the briefing, was recently shown in Wheathampstead, where it was watched by more than 100 residents.
Organiser Anne Howe said people found the film powerful and informative, with accessible scientific terms, but hopeful as well: “We had a discussion afterwards which focused on personal, local and national action. Personal is about not burning solid fuel, getting solar panels; local is having fire watchers like you have litter pickers and national – lobby, lobby, lobby.
“Many residents said it made them realise they could take their own personal action and it could make a difference, as well as lobbying MPs about companies who are polluting rivers and much more.”
