In pictures: Flamstead Scarecrow Festival returns to village

Worzel Gummidge’s distant relatives were out on display for the 22nd annual Flamstead Scarecrow Festival last weekend, with villagers exhibiting a wealth of creations to raise funds for the ancient Grade I listed parish church of St Leonard’s, which has stood at the heart of Flamstead for almost 900 years.

Scarecrows included Count Strawface, whose manifesto included free hay for all and no tax on garden gnomes, a Stranger Things-themed display, the Big Friendly Giant, and Paul Hollow-Wood and Scary Berry from the Great British Scarecrow Off.

There was also live music in the churchyard throughout the day and a beer festival at the local pubs.
