Save the date! It’s time to get arty again when Harpenden’s Art on the Common returns to town on the weekend of July 4-5.

This annual event is part of a growing local art and culture scene and features more than 70 artists exhibiting, alongside live music and other entertainment.

Any artwork bought will to support Cancer Research UK with 15 per cent of sales being donated to the charity, adding to the £20,000-plus which has been raised in the last four years.

The event is sponsored by Artscape in Coldharbour Lane, Harpenden, offering vast range of art and craft materials, stationery products and an on-line framing service, as well as their very popular art splatter sessions.

You can book an Art Splash session where adults and children can get very messy with interactive splatter painting! Or you might like to learn how fishing flies are made with demonstrations from the Herts Fly Dressers.

The local art community will be exhibiting jewellery, ceramics, wall art, textiles, pottery and photography.

The line-up includes Richard Hurford Trio and Guests, The Reverbs, Magic Voices and Finding Harmony, and new for this year is dancing from the Harpenden Dance Group.

One of the organisers, David Whitbread, said: “It is the 49th year of Art on the Common and we have our most exciting line-up yet. It is amazing to see the event growing ever more vibrant and showcasing such a wide range of the arts. We are passionate about supporting our art and culture community and everyone can relate to the vital work of Cancer Research UK who receive 15 per cent of our sales.
