Runners of all ages and abilities are being urged to lace up their trainers and join a special celebration event this June, as the much-loved St Albans Summer Solstice 10K marks its 10th year.
Taking place on Friday June 19, the popular evening race – which is organised by St Albans Striders – has become a firm fixture in the local calendar, bringing together seasoned runners, first-timers and families for a unique running experience timed to coincide with the longest day of the year.
This year’s event celebrates a decade of community spirit, fitness and fun. Participants will take on a scenic 10K route as the sun begins to set, before crossing the finish line to receive a special commemorative medal.
Organisers are keen to emphasise that the event is open to everyone, whether you’re aiming for a personal best, running with friends, or simply looking for a fun and active evening out with the family.
Adding to the festival atmosphere, the event will also once again showcase local food and drink businesses, with a range of vendors on site including Gin and Fizz, Two Twos (burgers) and La Scatola, giving runners and spectators the chance to refuel and celebrate during and afterwards.
Beyond the run itself, the event plays a role in supporting the local economy, drawing people into the area and championing independent traders.
Event founder Stu Middleton said: “It’s wonderful to see how far the Summer Solstice 10K has come over the past 10 years. What started as a small local race has grown into a real community celebration that brings people together from across St Albans and beyond.
“This event has always been about making running accessible and enjoyable for everyone, whether you’re a club runner or taking on your first 10K. With the atmosphere, the support from spectators and the brilliant local food and drink on offer, it’s a truly special evening.
“We’d love as many people as possible to join us this year – it’s a fantastic way to celebrate the summer solstice, support local businesses and be part of something really special in its 10th year.”
