St Albans is renowned for its dog-lovers, and now a new initiative aims to promote its dog-friendly status with a day of activities and treats for the city’s canines.
St Albans regularly appears as one of the UK’s top dog-friendly cities with lots of attractions, cafés, pubs, shops, and restaurants offering a warm welcome to our four-legged friends.
But things are really stepping up a gear on Saturday August 26 with a whole day celebrating our local pooch appeal, including dog selfie frames dotted around the city centre; a dog-themed market situated by the Clock Tower; free treat bags and puppocinos; a workshop offering advice on raw feeding, and various competitions and raffles.
The inaugural St Albans Dog Day is being run by St Albans BID, and manager Vivien Cannon explained: “St Albans Dog Day is a brand-new initiative designed to highlight all the ways the city is dog friendly. With new figures showing that business owners who became dog-friendly for the first time in 2022 reported growth of 20–50% it’s a great way for businesses to highlight their dog-friendly credentials and encourage more dog owners to visit and enjoy St Albans.
“Beyond our amazing green spaces for walking and exercising, we have a huge variety of social and hospitality venues and retail businesses that fully welcome dogs so you can confidently enjoy time in our city with your furry friends.”
