England fans rubbed shoulders with former Lionesses and stars from TV’s Love Island at a special screening of Saturday’s World Cup quarter final match outside the Alban Arena.
The clash between the England Women and Colombia ended in a 2-1 victory for the European champions, who can now look forward to meeting co-hosts Australia in the semis.
Love Island 2023 winners Jess Harding and Sammy Root and assorted former women’s players were spotted in the crowd at the event, which was sponsored by McDonald’s.
England footballers Maya le Tissier (Man United), Leah Galton (Man United), Anna Patten (Aston Villa) were all in attendance showing their support for the team among the fans.
When asked about the event and Lionesses’ performance, Maya said: “It was a great performance in the end. They showed real team spirit and didn’t let their heads drop after the first goal. The next game will be a tough one but we keep rising to the challenge.”
