A touch of Barry comes to Question of Sport

Members of the local business community gathered to support Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care at its annual Question of Sport fundraiser, collecting more than £76K for local hospice care.

The event brought together teams from across the area for an evening of friendly competition and entertainment, with a sport‑themed quiz hosted by former actor and presenter, Shaun Williamson, best known for his EastEnders character Barry Evans.

A team from Gilberts Chartered Accountants & Business Advisers was victorious in the quiz, which was attended by special guests from the world of sport including footballers Luther Blissett OBE DL (Patron of Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care) and Helen Ward, and boxing champion John Conteh MBE, as well as actor Colin Salmon.

Lisa Meagher, head of partnerships at Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, said afterwards: “It was great to see the local business community out in force at our annual Question of Sport event. Behind the entertainment, lively quiz and friendly competition on the night is a serious cause – providing extraordinary care to people in our community whose lives have been turned upside down by serious illness.

“The evening raised £76,450 which will make a huge difference to local people who need our care. This wouldn’t have been possible without our event sponsors including headline sponsor, Graham & Sibbald, and everybody who bought a ticket, bid in the auction and dug deep to support the raffle. I’d like to say a huge thank you to our host, Shaun Williamson, and everybody who came on the night and made it a wonderful event.”
