The newly formed Alban Community Energy (ACE) is presenting a screening of the film Power Station at the Odyssey Cinema followed by a panel event on community energy in the district.
ACE is a community benefit society focused on building energy resilience, breaking free from fossil fuels, reducing energy bills and generating lasting value for local people. They aim to do this by installing community-owned renewable energy infrastructure, providing independent energy advice, and reinvesting profits into community projects.
This event will be the first public launch of Alban Community Energy, and aims to initiate conversations about the potential for community energy in St Albans, raise awareness of ACE, invite nominations of potential host sites for community-owned solar, and offer a chance for people to hear from existing groups, ask questions and learn about the community energy model.
The film will be followed by a panel Q&A hosted by Alban Community Energy, exploring the question: “What does a people-powered energy transition look like in St Albans district?”
Power Station is about two artists and activists’ mission to power their London street with solar energy, one home at a time. It’s not just about buying solar panels, but reaffirming a collective belief that a different world is possible.
As they knock on neighbours’ doors, harness their creativity to raise funds, and persevere through financial and logistical setbacks, what they find is hard to resist: proof that all the power we need is right here, in the people around us.
