New ‘Share with Care’ signs have been officially unveiled by the Friends of Jersey Lane (FoJL).
The signs, placed at intervals along the 400-year-old greenway – which stretches from Marshalswick to Sandridge – were provided by Herts county council. to provide a unified identity along its length and encourage its many users, including walkers, cyclists, commuters, dog-walkers and horse-riders, to have respect for one another.
The unveiling was attended by county councillor John Hale, district councillors Lorraine Kirby and Raj Visram, HCC footpaths officer Julian Thornton and Countryside Management Service (CMS) volunteer coordinator Tirzah Bottomley.
FoJL chair, Jim Watson, thanked the loyal volunteers from FoJL for their continued work in maintaining and improving Jersey Lane, and CMS for their support.
Cllr Hale acknowledged the work of Police Community Support Officer, Chris Stokes for his assistance in bringing the project to fruition.
The signs, incorporating design ideas submitted by FoJL, include a graphic reminder that the original, local farmer kept a herd of Jersey cattle – hence the name subsequently given to Jersey Farm housing estate and to Jersey Lane itself.
