St Peter’s School in St Albans has again been recognised for its unwavering commitment to the social, emotional and mental health of its pupils.
The school has been reaccredited with the prestigious National Nurturing Schools Award, based on the Six Principles of Nurture, which are intrinsic to a child’s ability to thrive. These principles emphasise that learning is understood developmentally and that the classroom offers a safe place to express yourself.
Since its previous assessment, St Peter’s has grown into a thriving two-form entry primary school. Intrinsic to this expansion is the success of the school’s core ethos of being positive, caring, and inclusive – values that are reflected in every interaction between staff, students, and the wider community.
Headteacher Gillie Masterton said: “We are thrilled to receive this reaccreditation; it is testament to the hard work and commitment of our school staff and community. At St Peter’s, every decision we make is based around the six principles of nurture. By embedding these principles across all aspects of school life, we ensure that our children feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.”
St Peter’s is one of only a handful of schools across Hertfordshire to receive this accolade, with the report summarising; “[It} is now a thriving two-form entry primary school, having expanded from its former one-form entry since the previous assessment… the school’s values of being ‘positive, caring and inclusive’ are reflected in every interaction…it was evident that staff work tirelessly to uphold the school’s ethos of ‘Helping every child flourish’, ensuring that nurture is not an initiative, but a lived, shared culture.”
