Headteacher of The Marlborough Science Academy, Annie Thomson, is to step down after 22 years in the role.
Over this period Ms Thomson and her team have led the school through six Ofsted inspections, three different frameworks and the transition to academy status in 2012.
Chair of governors Jane Walter-Smith said: “Over her 22 years at Marlborough, Ms Thomson has worked tirelessly in some challenging times to support students and families, and with her team has been instrumental in changing the perception of Marlborough within our local community and the local authority.
“Staying true to her ethos she has always held the view that wherever possible children should be treated with kindness and have access to the very best teaching possible, often thinking outside the box. We are grateful for the many initiatives that have changed children’s lives and made school (for them) that little bit happier. This commitment has been recognised both at local and national level, gaining continued popularity and first preferences.
“The school has increased in size, has two new buildings and one in progress and continues to be an exciting time for Marlborough. We continue to be oversubscribed and offer a well-balanced and innovative curriculum.”
TMSA is currently in the process of recruiting for a new headteacher to start in September.
