St Albans Postboxes is back for its eighth year of woolly wonder, and this time organisers shouting it from the rooftops (and the postboxes): ANYONE can sponsor a topper.
Not just businesses – but also families, friendship groups, book clubs, schools, dog walkers, knitting circles, and even entire streets.
One of their favourite examples is Lancaster Road, where a cheerful group of neighbours has made sponsoring their local topper near Bernard’s Heath a yearly tradition.
Every winter, the residents come together to donate, celebrate, and champion their chosen postbox. It’s community spirit in its purest form: local people supporting local charities, one stitch at a time. This year’s beneficiaries are Comfort Cases UK and the Herts Domestic Abuse Helpline.
Spokesperson Melanie said: “I love how joyful the Postbox toppers are and wanted to help by raising more funds for the local charities but also as a way to say thank you to all the knitters and crocheters who make the wonderful creations for us all to enjoy. The generosity of everyone on the road and beyond has just got bigger and bigger each year!”
This year, organisers would love to see more streets join in. Imagine a whole road proudly claiming a topper as “theirs” – children pointing it out on the school run, neighbours competing for the best photo, and everyone enjoying that heart-warming feeling of doing something good together.
Every penny raised goes directly to their 2025 charities, supporting families and children in care across Hertfordshire when they need it most.

Topper sponsorships are a donation, with 100 per cent going to St Albans Postboxes’ charities.
In return, sponsors get a sign on their topper, a warm fuzzy feeling (strictly metaphorical, the toppers handle the fuzzy bit), and the joy of being part of one of St Albans’ most loved festive traditions.
“We absolutely love how Lancaster Road makes this a neighbourhood moment every single year,” says organiser Clare Suttie.
““It shows that sponsorship isn’t just for companies — it’s for anyone who wants to sprinkle a bit of joy into the community while supporting two incredible local charities.”
