The de Havilland Aircraft Museum in London Colney has been presented with the National Transport Trust Awards’ Preservationist of the Year silver trophy in recognition of the high standard of work and authenticity of its Mosquito FB.VI TA122 restoration work.
This project has taken nearly 50 years to complete, and work continues on the conservation of the aircraft. The Mosquito was originally designed as a high speed unarmed
bomber, but evolved into the first multi-role combat during the Second World War.
The de Havilland Aircraft Museum is the first aviation museum in Britain, opening to the public on May 15 1959 with the Prototype Mosquito preserved at Salisbury Hall, where it
was designed and built in 1940. Mosquito FB.VI TA122 is a combat veteran having seen service with 605 Squadron (RAuxAF) at the end of the war.
