The A1081 London Road route into and out of St Albans will be closed for four nights next week to allow for essential railway bridge inspections.

The work is taking place overnight at the bridge between Colindale Avenue and Orient Close on November 10-13 between 11pm to 6am.

Outside of the working times the highway will be open to the public without any obstructions. Access for gritting and emergency services during the closure periods will be maintained by National Rail and pedestrian marshals present.

Cllr Sandy Walkington, county councillor for St Albans South, said: “These inspections have to be done, we all want our rail infrastructure to be safe.  At least confining the road closures to overnight will minimise the pain to residents when it affects such a significant road.”
