More than 60 local charities and community groups are set to come together in the Cathedral for the third annual St Albans Community Showcase.
The event is a vibrant celebration of community spirit and commitment from organisations that contribute to making a strong and caring community, and offers an opportunity to learn about their diverse and impactful work, from social justice initiatives to environmental conservation efforts.
This year’s participants include organisations supporting the homeless and rough sleepers, people with mental, emotional or physical challenges, and the lonely and isolated and those with financial pressures who lack the money for even the bare essentials of food and energy.
Other groups are supporting the young and the elderly, the cared for and the carers, working for the environment and campaigning for change.
Stands will be located throughout the longest nave in England, with representatives from each organisation on hand to share their missions and stories and discuss the critical issues they address and the positive changes they foster.
Chris Lyal, one of the organisers of the event for the Cathedral, reflected on last year’s Showcase: “The event demonstrated the incredible work done by volunteers in the St Albans area locally, nationally and globally.
“It was also a way for those groups to recruit more volunteers and, very importantly, to network among themselves. When we first ran the event in 2023, we had not known what to expect, but we were, and continue to be overwhelmed, by the response and how many organisations want to be involved year after year. The atmosphere in the Cathedral is fabulous – so much commitment and enthusiasm!”
This year’s Community Showcase takes place on Saturday October 25 from 11am-3pm.
