St Albans Mayor Cllr Teresa Heritage recently attended a ‘brain enhancement’ presentation at Age Concern St Albans.
The presentation was delivered by local mathematician Gareth Rowlands who is a campaigner for people living with different forms of memory loss.
Clients at the Welfare Centre were shown various neurobic exercises that help to improve memory retention.
Cllr Heritage said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Age Concern’s welfare centre and Gareth’s excellent presentation on brain enhancement.
“Gareth is a very impressive individual and does a tremendous amount of voluntary work in our community for people living with dementia.
“I would urge people to take a look at his free neurobic exercises resources which are available online at www.battledementia.co.uk. I know I certainly will be doing so.”
Gareth is well known throughout Hertfordshire for his volunteering work for people living with dementia and runs workshops at different venues including St Albans Cathedral, The Maltings library, NatWest bank, St Peter’s Street and various dementia cafés throughout Herts.
His work also appears on Alzheimer’s Disease International website from which 140 member states can download and use his resources.
His most recent resource is a 250 page booklet containing challenging exercises to keep the brain active.
