A burst water main in Watling Street has resulted in the closure of The Marlborough Science Academy for today.
Parents and students were informed this morning that the school had no option but to close due to a lack of water for sanitation or cooking facilities.
The situation is unlikely to be resolved before lunchtime.
Affinity Water said on their website that they first became aware of the issue late last night, and water supplies were turned off for nearby properties in order for repairs to be carried out.
Water was first restored at around 3.40am following the installation of a line stop, but this snapped at around 6.20am and further repairs were necessary.
However, a neighbour living near the site said they first reported issues weeks ago.
“We have been constantly telling Affinity for four weeks that there was a major leak. They came out on August 29, dug up the road, decided they couldn’t fix it there and then, filled it in, and then came back last night. So this was not only known to them last night, nor was it an ‘emergency’ , it is pure incompetence, wasting a huge amount of water and causing huge inconvenience to local residents, students and road users.”
Properties in the AL1 area may experience issues with their supply while the work continues.
