This year’s Harpenden Art on the Common will be taking place over the weekend of August 30 and 31 near the entrance to Rothamsted Park.
For the first time, the event features live music from Richard Hurford Trio and Guests, The ReVerbs and the Magic Voices Choir to enjoy as you browse and buy from more than 70 local artists.
Artwork on sale spans a wide spectrum of genres from jewellery, ceramics, photography, woodwork, mosaics, textiles and hand-made greetings cards as well as large
paintings for your wall – with prices starting from just £2 for cards.
Representatives from local art and photography clubs will be there to discuss their work, and there’s the chance to get involved in arty activities and workshops.
You can join Laura of Fused Glass who will be running workshops and make your very own coaster or light catcher (pre-booking details available on social
media). Watch a live demonstration of traditional lace-making from St Albans Lacemakers on Saturday, and Sapphire Hope will be creating on-the-spot personalised greetings cards on Sunday!
This year’s main sponsor is Artscape in Coldharbour Lane, Harpenden, who offer extensive range of art and craft materials, stationary products and an online framing service. Artscape will have art materials for sale and some of their large picture frames will be on the Common for your Instagram poses and doggy portraits!
Art on the Common organiser David Whitbread said: “In 2024 Art on the Common raised more than £7K for Cancer Research UK in addition to the incredible £17K raised in the previous three years.
“We are excited and proud to be helping this important charity once again and and promoting so many talented local artists. This event is a highlight of Harpenden’s art and culture scene and the new addition of music will create a truly fantastic atmosphere!”
