The winners of a talent competition to support the main stage acts at this year’s St Albans Pub in the Park have been revealed.
The Tom Kerridge-fronted food and music festival again teamed up with music media, events and management company Headliner to uncover some of the most exciting up-and-coming artists and provide them with the opportunity to shine on a major stage.
The competition ran for six weeks and drew over 200 entries, with a strong and balanced mix of bands, duos, trios, solo artists and DJs. After a series of impressive submissions and live performances, Headliner and a panel of industry experts selected four main winners, who will support major artists on the main stage across the weekend of September 6-7 in Verulamium Park — and will also perform on the dedicated Headliner Stage, which will feature 23 acts in total.
The winners are:
- Brooke Law (@br00kelaw), who will open the main stage on Saturday September 6 (afternoon session);
- Burr Island (@burr_island_band), opening the Saturday evening session;
- Madic (@madicofficial), who will support on Sunday afternoon;
- Reigns (@thisisreigns), who will take to the main stage on Sunday evening.
“We were overwhelmed with the level of talent that came through – the performances, the songwriting, and the diversity of sound were genuinely outstanding,” said Headliner’s head of artist relations, Grace McGuigan. “It wasn’t easy narrowing it down, but these four stood out and we’re so excited to see them perform live on that big stage.”
The winners are buzzing to have the chance to support the Pub in the Park headliners: Brooke Law said she was “beyond excited (and still slightly in shock) to have won the Pub in the Park festival competition! Massive thanks to the foodie gods and whoever picked us—we’re ready to eat, dance, and pretend we know about craft beer!”
For Reigns it’s her first festival (apart from Pride) and she said: “to be on the main stage is basically EVERYTHING! I feel blessed and just can’t wait to perform my tunes with the band!”
And Madic shas been manifesting this opportunity: “I am beyond excited to perform at this year’s Pub in the Park! it’s like a dream … Last year I was playing the smaller stage manifesting the chance to perform on the main stage and this year I’m on the main stage!”
This year’s competition heats took place at Darkwood Studios, Headliner Group’s professional production and recording space, located on the beautiful and secluded Symondshyde Farm. The studio provided a high-spec, creative environment for the artists to perform and be evaluated by an experienced panel of industry judges.
“Once again we’re thrilled to be giving up-and-coming artists a platform to play at the fantastic Pub in the Park festival,” said Paul Watson, CEO of Headliner Group. “And to everyone who entered: thank you for sharing your talent with us. Congratulations to our winners — we can’t wait to see what you do next.”
