The Maltings Shopping Centre is turning up the heat with their brand-new Summer Sounds event as they announce a an exciting line-up of free entertainment.
On Friday June 27 from 6-10 pm, locals and visitors can enjoy late-night shopping, delicious street food and a packed programme of live music.
The main stage, at the Costa Bandstand, will host a line-up of live performances by local talent throughout the evening.
Grace George – a rising star whose soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics have been featured on ITV’s Love Island – will perform two special headline sets that promise to be an epic highlight of the evening.
Local performance academy Brilliant Theatre Arts will showcase young stars-in-the-making, with a spectacular selection of musical theatre hits. Prepare for standout performances from some of the city’s brightest young stars, who all attend Brilliant’s St Albans Academy.
Closing the bandstand with an electrifying finale, guaranteed to get everyone dancing, is FLABBA! Bringing you all the iconic hits of ABBA — with twice the sequins and double the fun! This fabulously full-figured duo will belt out classics like Dancing Queen, Waterloo, and Mamma Mia with powerhouse vocals and deliciously over-the-top energy in a feel-good, disco-drenched celebration of fearless self-love.
At the Wilko’s end of the shopping centre, the legendary Dirty Stereo DJs will keep the summer vibes going with uplifting house music throughout the evening.
Centre manager Richard Marrett says there is a real buzz about the event: “The Maltings Summer Sounds is just the kind of vibrant, community-driven event our retailers want.
“The majority are staying open late, and businesses are pulling out all the stops to give people a fantastic evening. We are also offering free parking for all guests in The Maltings car park. So, grab your friends and come and enjoy all this event has to offer.”
Teresa Kennedy from Up We Pop said: “It’s going to be a fantastic evening and such a great way for the community to come together, and the entertainment is going to be fabulous!
“We are running ‘Sip and Spin’ where guests can enjoy a glass of Prosecco and spin our in-store wheel to win a prize, including free earrings, bracelets or a scarf. We will also have goodie bags, amazing discounts and personal styling services. ”We can’t wait to welcome customers, old and new, for what promises to be a great night.”
Simon Cox at Clipso hair salon said: “We’re really excited about the Maltings Summer Sounds extravaganza as there is so much for people to enjoy across the whole centre, it promises to be a great night! We’ll have demonstrations with GHD tools, free hair ups and consultations, and nibbles and drinks – so come and join the fun with us!”
The event will also support local charity, Youth Talk, a vital local charity providing free, confidential counselling for young people aged 13-25 in St Albans.
The Maltings have funded a Prosecco bar, meaning all profits made on the night will go to Youth Talk. Guests can also find out more about their work and donate at their dedicated stall on the night.
