Pubs across St Albans welcomed 45 mobility scooters and 60 motorbikes as part of a fundraising convoy in aid of Shopmobility St Albans.
Sponsored by Skechers, Choppers 4 Shoppers was raising funds for Shopmobility St Albans, which is now self-funded after losing the support of SADC.
The event, which kicked off in St Albans city centre on Sunday morning, was backed by local MP Daisy Cooper.
Cllr Liz Needham lead the convoy on its journey, which saw a visit to the Cathedral for a blessing by the Dean of St Albans as well as a host of local pubs for donations including Alban’s Well, Wetherspoons, The White Swan, The Lower Red Lion, The Verulam, The Farriers Arms, Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, The Snug, The Garibaldi, The White Heart Tap, The Goat Inn, The White Lion, The Bishop’s Cave and the Beer Shop.
Organiser Simon Rapkin said; “Yesterday was fabulous and the weather gods smiled on us.
“The Dean of St Albans Cathedral gave us a blessing and even told us a motorcycle joke, and it was an extreme honour to be allowed to attend the Cathedral en masse.
“All the good people of St Albans were so generous…. not just waving us through town but also filling our buckets, with just under £3,000 raised!
“We would like to thank Mix 92.6 FM, Daisy Cooper MP, Cllr Liz Needham, Andrea Wright Images, the incredible St Albans police, KBR Blues for the music and PA system,
“This will be an annual event and is ahead of our Guinness World Record attempt later this year where we will have over 200 mobility scooters riding in unison in St Peter’s Street.”
