The St Albans Rotary Swimathon has been honoured with an award in recognition of its outstanding contributions to local charities through sports.
The Rotary Swimathon was first launched in 2019 and has since raised thousands of pounds for noble causes, making a tangible difference in the community. Through this annual event, participants of all ages and abilities come together to swim and raise funds for a variety of local charities, embodying Rotary’s mission of service above self.
The award was presented by Herts High Sheriff Annie Brewster in the presence of St Albans Ch Insp Martin Turpin, Nitesh Joshi, chairman of Rotary of Great Britain and Ireland, as well as members of Rotary and friends who have supported the initiative over the years.
Jenny Muir, the driving force behind the Swimathon, expressed her gratitude upon receiving the award:
“I was surprised and honoured to receive this recognition. It’s a testament to the dedication of everyone involved in making the Swimathon a success year after year.”
Claudio Duran, President of the St Albans Rotary Verulamium Club and trustee of the Swimathon, also shared his excitement: “I received a phone call from Jane Parker informing me that the High Sheriff would be giving an award to our project.
“I was absolutely delighted to hear the news! Rotary does so much to help other charities achieve their goals by extending a helping hand to those who need it most, and this award is a wonderful acknowledgment of that work.”
