Police at the scene at Verulamium Lake.

A man’s body has been discovered in Verulamium Lake.

Police have sealed off access to the area while investigations continue this evening.

The man is believed to be white, aged 30-40, with dark hair, and was found close to the toilet block where the sluice gate is located.

Herts Fire and Rescue is also on the scene.

It is now thought the person found was 43-year-old Stuart, who was the subject of a police appeal after he went missing from St Albans on Saturday.

A police spokesperson said: “Sadly, earlier today a body was found during the search for missing 43-year-old Stuart from StAlbans.

“At this stage his death is not being treated as suspicious.

“Officers have been in contact with Stuart’s family and they are being provided with support.

“Thank you to those who have shared the appeals in support of efforts to find Stuart.”
