Orchid King remembered with George Street blue plaque

The unveiling of a blue plaque in George Street to commemorate the life of Frederick Sander.

The official installation of a blue plaque commemorating the life of Orchid King Frederick Sander took place at 21 George Street on Saturday.

The event, organised by Blue Plaques St Albans, was attended by Mayor Cllr Anthony Rowlands and Mayoress Annie Stevenson, Dylan Steel – the son of artist Ant who painted a portrait of Sander, Marc and Sophie Trinder of Trinder Hair Studios where the plaque has been sited, and relatives of the great man himself. Neighbouring businesses joined in the celebrations by decorating their premises with orchids.
