Pupils from St Albans School got into the festive spirit at their annual Christmas party for the elderly.
Afternoon tea and entertainment was enjoyed by 75 senior citizens from six local care homes and some nearby luncheon clubs, thanks to the School’s Partnership and Community Link Programme, which has been running since 2009.
The school prides itself on encouraging its pupils to be of service to others, and the programme sees Sixth Form pupils assisting elderly residents in the local area and volunteering in special schools and charity shops each week.
The festive celebration was held in the Sixth Form Centre where guests enjoyed a
selection of sandwiches, cakes and drinks served by pupils, accompanied by Christmas crackers and a cheery festive atmosphere.
Members of the school choir led the singing of carols and some of the younger pupils made the afternoon even more memorable with some festive poetry readings.
Linda from Dorant House, who enjoyed her fourth year attending the party, said: “It’s so lovely to enjoy a wonderful afternoon tea and see some old friends. I always look forward to it!”
