St Albans MP Daisy Cooper took to the stage of iconic St Albans music venue The Horn for a show-stopping performance of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.
The Liberal Democrats’ deputy leader revealed a hidden talent for singing when she belted out the rock classic at Saturday’s exclusive event marking The Horn’s 50th anniversary.
She joined Mark Davyd, founder and CEO of Music Venue Trust – a charity which acts to protect, secure and improve UK grassroots music venues for the benefit of the venues themselves, local communities and upcoming artists.
They were supported by Rockaoke, the UK’s leading live karaoke band, for the final performance of Saturday night’s celebration, which had also seen Bluetones singer Mark Morriss perform a version of Simple Minds’ Don’t You Forget About Me.
The Horn has been celebrating its milestone anniversary throughout this year, with returning acts including The Bluetones, Sleeper, Gaz Coombes, Tom Meighan, China Crisis, Hue and Cry and Mohair, who have played the venue a remarkable 54 times.
Originally The Midland Station Hotel (not to be confused with The Midland Railway, or Little Midland, opposite), it hosted the occasional band during the ‘sixties before becoming a pub.
Changing its name to The Horn of Plenty it became renowned for its live music, with a separate staged area established behind the bar.
