We ask a different figure from the local community to choose 10 questions to answer from a list of 50. This week: Mix 92.6FM presenter Ruth Cooper-Dickson. Ruth presents the Mix Breakfast show on a Monday morning (6am-9am) and reports on wellbeing events and themes for the Morning Show.
Where do you walk when you want to think?
Tring Park is so close to where I live, and I find that being amongst the trees for 15 minutes has a massive impact on reducing my stress levels and giving me perspective when I’m feeling low or anxious. Being in nature is so cathartic, and it does not take much to boost your wellbeing.
Who was your first best friend?
My first best friend at primary school was also called Ruth. Having two of them in a small village school was quite rare. When we used to get in trouble, our mums used to shout “RUTH!!” We’d both turn around and always cover for each other; we were quite a mischievous pair.
Where do you buy your coffee in St Albans?
I do like Simmons’ coffee. Perhaps they could send me one into the studio on a Monday morning for the Breakfast Show!
What are your preferred pizza toppings?
I love a veggie hot pizza, and I’m always down for Hawaiian. I don’t care if pineapple on a pizza is wrong – I love it.
Wednesday or Saturday market?
It must be a Saturday one for me. I like the bustle of the market and mooching around with a coffee. I love the stall with the yummy scotch eggs, and I always pick up whatever is in season from the fruit and vegetable stall.
How many pairs of shoes do you own?
Unknown, but a lot, especially if you add in running trainers. I love running, and the St Albans Parkrun is one of my favourites to attend. I recently interviewed them for the Mix 92.6 Weekend Wakeup show with Jonny Seabrook. They are a good bunch down there, very welcoming and inclusive.
What was your best subject at school?
English and Drama. Anything where I could talk or read was my best subject. Closely followed by PE and sports.
Do you ever Google yourself?
Yes! I speak publicly and appear in newspapers and magazines, so I always like to see where I might pop up online. I never read the comments, though, ha.
What items do you always carry with you?
Crystals. I love a bit of magic, and they can be beautiful. I often leave them lying around in the Mix studio! I like the idea of carrying something with me. Also, as someone who is neurodivergent, I find it helps to hold something if I am very anxious or trying to focus. Oh, and snacks. I always carry snacks!
How often do you check your phone?
Way too much.
