It seems that barely a week goes by before St Albans features in another clickbait-friendly poll – but the latest really takes the cream..
According to digital PR agency Tank, the city is the most affordable coffee location in the UK, with a flat white setting locals back £3.60 – meaning residents on the average salary are able to purchase more than 49 coffees per day (49.44), the highest amount in the country.
But digging only slightly beneath the surface reveals that the stats are based on the average take home salary being an impressive £46K, with a single cup a day working out to just under 3% of the average salary, and two cups just over 5%.
Apparently this means locals can squeeze almost double the amount of coffee from their wages compared to the most expensive city, Bristol, where locals pay £4.25 on average for a flat white – working out to £1,500 per year – or over 5% of their wages.
Quite what this information will do to enrich or enlighten the lives of anybody either living or working in St Albans has yet to be determined.
