We ask a different figure from the local community to choose 10 questions to answer from a list of 50. This week: Dom O’Hanlon, a theatre director based in St Albans. He’s a proud trustee of St Albans Musical Theatre Company and enjoys working with the St Albans based company Ever After Productions who last year performed the 5* production of Nine at the Abbey Theatre and are returning in September with Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along. He has just published Directing Amateur Musical Theatre: A Practical Guide for Non-Professional Theatre, with a launch event at Toast in St Albans (pictured).
Where do you walk when you want to think?
Around the lake in the park. It’s peaceful and so well used by the community we are so lucky to have it.
Where do you buy your coffee in St Albans?
St Albans has such fantastic local businesses so I will only buy my coffee from one of these. My favourite has to be NKora.
What items do you always carry with you?
Wallet, phone, keys, airpods umbrella.
CD, vinyl, download or streaming?
CDs and vinyl all the way! I have a collection of 800+ CDs, mainly cast recordings from almost every musical ever recorded.
What’s your favourite place to have breakfast in St Albans?
Toast in St Albans is my favourite local establishment. It’s got great staff, fantastic vibes and the food is first rate. Exactly what you want from a brunch and breakfast in the heart of the city.
If you could travel back in time and offer your younger self some advice, what would it be?
Glitter and be Gay.
What was your first job?
Saturday morning paperboy.
Odyssey or Netflix?
Odyssey every time! We are so lucky to have it and I try to go as much as I can.
What’s your favourite St Albans pub?
The Fighting Cocks, especially for the Wednesday night quiz.
Most inspirational St Albans person – living or dead?
The late great Paul Cattermole of S Club 7. Ain’t no party like an S Club party.
